Erin McClelland Museum Services partnered with the design team at Split Rock Studios to research and write the new visitor center exhibits at the Sam Rayburn House in Bonham, Texas. The site is the family home of Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn, the longest-serving Speaker in American history. The exhibits offer a peek into “Mr. Sam’s” closest family relationships and the ways his home and political lives spilled over into each other. An old-fashioned rotary telephone lets visitors listen to a family friend reminisce about the Speaker, and drawers contain personal letters and items that would have sat on his desk at home. Mr. Sam’s personal telephone directory sits on the desktop, open to the page with Senator Lyndon B. Johnson’s direct number.
